Carbonation Test Bomb

The MOLAB carbonation test bomb is designed for the direct sampling and testing of bulk carbonated products for their level of carbonation. The bomb consists of a stainless steel pressure vessel fitted with filling and snift valves, a calibrated pressure gauge, and a stainless steel bimetal thermometer.

The filling of the bomb can be carried out by either the prepressurisation and snift procedure or the counter pressure and gravity fill procedure. The bomb has a product volume of approximately 200 mls

The bomb has a restricted fill device to prevent flooding of the bomb during filling. Manual draining of a small amount of product prior to snifting and testing is therefore not required.

For testing Beer a 250 kPA pressure gauge is recommended while for higher carbonation products such as soft drinks and wines a 400 kPa pressure gauge is recommended. The purchase of an extra pressure gauge is also recommended. Carbonation gauges are subject to a considerable amount of mechanical abuse as a consequence the gauges require regular checking and calibration. An extra gauge means that one can be away getting tested while the other is in use.
